My Holy Trinity: 3 Beauty Products to Get You Out of the House in 3 Minutes—Looking Like a 10!
I’m not just short on time these days, but frankly I’m short on motivation to make a big ole production about every errand, visit to the playground, and everywhere in between. But I also don’t want to show up looking like a bedraggled Fraggle, and over time I’ve created a short-list of items that ensure I fall right in that sweet spot. Not overly done up, but not “That-girl-needs-a-nap” disheveled either.
So without further ado, these are three of my current lifesavers—achieving a triumvirate of savings: time, space, and money!
You can toss every half-used eye shadow palette clogging your counters and purses. Streamline to this one phenomenal product—with 12 shadows in the most flattering, wearable, versatile hues. The brush stores neatly inside so no digging around in a drawer for the brush or wrestling it away from prying little hands. While at $50 it’s not exactly cheap, you will save more money down the road by not needing to buy eye makeup for eons. One palette on your vanity, a million looks—all casual, all cool, all the time. Done.
This inexpensive little hair doodad came out about two years ago, and it’s honestly changed my life. I’m one of those people who often tosses my hair into a bun, but usually what results is this sad little stump that falls out within an hour—not the plump, pretty, all-day bun I’m hoping for. The Spin Pin makes achieving a perfectly cool, insouciant bun a no-brainer. No fumbling with bobby pins (Goody boasts that it “does the work of 20 bobbies!”). No artfully arranging tendrils just so. (Who has the time—especially when your kid will probably try to yank it out!?) Simply gather your hair into your usual bun—and sort of screw in the Spin Pin. (The package comes with simple instructions.) It ensures that your bun stays put and even people with the thinnest hair can get a full look. I know it might sound complicated but it’s not! Take it for a, err…spin!
With a name like that, better be amazing, and honestly, it’s not far off the mark. Listen: I’ve seen a lot in the way of beauty products. I’ve covered beauty for tons of magazines and have had every item thrown my way for testing. And not much impresses me. In the end, I’ve found that items I actually end up using to completion (meaning, to the last drop)—those are special products. This is one of those. While it’s not specifically billed as a BB cream—the multi-function creams that are one of the hottest trends in makeup/skincare right now—it’s not far off the mark. The tinted formula goes on like crushed silk, blends effortlessly into your skin while evening out tone and texture and offers SPF 20 protection. You can choose between a few shades, or opt for a translucent one. Created by makeup artist Sarah McNamara, it’s hydrating enough to use as your daily moisturizer, so there’s no need to first slather on a lotion. (Again—who has the time for extra steps?) This is all you need, and it bestows that airbrush-y sort of effect that we all want for our otherwise splotchy, sometimes dull skin. Fine lines and redness and all that jazz—poof! See ya! Consider this the Swiss Army knife of beauty products, and tuck it in every pocket.
So there you go, all spruced up. (Well, at least from the neck up!)
