Starting Your Own Business, It Begins With Passion!
One of the best pieces of advice that I ever heard...What do you love to do? Now...figure out a way to make money at it!
Let me begin by telling you...first and foremost...you need to be passionate about your business. Whether you are decorating a client’s home as an Interior Designer, planting flowers for a client as their Gardener or baking up a batch of cupcakes. You need to love what you do and be passionate about it.
I started Hoosier Homemade as a way to help Moms and Women learn how to cook, bake and decorate their homes. Not every girl grows up with someone that is able to teach her how to do these things, but every woman I know...wants to be a hero to their family. And it is a passion of mine to help those women become that hero!
Hoosier Homemade is a little over 3 years old now, it’s been challenging at times and a lot of work. My typical work day is at least 12 hours, with most days 18 hours, and most weeks I work 7 days. I wouldn’t be able to do that though, if I wasn’t passionate about what I do.
So where do you get started? Research...research...research
I followed many homemaking blogs for several years prior to launching Hoosier Homemade, and began writing down ideas of things to share. I recently came across that list, and after looking over it, realized that I haven’t even put a dent in the ideas I had.
After launching, I concentrated on creating and writing great content. Things that women and Moms {and Dads} would find helpful, whether I shared a fun birthday cupcake or my Monthly Menu Plan...the focus was on helping others.
As I continued working long, hard days, I was also loving every single minute of it! After about a year, people started noticing. I found myself being approached by major brands and knew then, that what I was doing was working.
So...I started working harder...better content, better social media outreach and better communication with brands.
And here we are...3 years later...Hoosier Homemade has grown by leaps and bounds, we have launched another cooking blog, Pocket Change Gourmet. And my husband is now working with me at home, full time.
I don’t have a magical answer to creating a successful business, but I do know...you need to be passionate about what you are doing.
