Summer DIY Project: Make Your Own Ice Chalk
Have you ever made Ice Chalk? This is a fun project that the kids can help you with – and then it will help entertain them for hours! The ingredients are simple, but you’ll want to make sure you have some ice molds to use. I have found that silicon ice molds work best because they are easier to pop out.
What You’ll Need:
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 Tbsp washable paint
If you don’t have washable paint – don’t worry, you can do it without and get white ice chalk. My son actually wanted white, so we made a batch without color – but the nice thing about making your own chalk is that you can make whatever colors you want. Pink, blue, yellow, green – whatever your kids want!
How to Make Ice Chalk:
- Mix the water and cornstarch together until the lumps are gone
- Add your washable paint
- Pour in molds and freeze for a few hours
- Take them out and enjoy!
These do melt (they are ice!) – so it is definitely an outside activity, but if you are having an outdoor party or water day, you can easily add this to your list and let the kids have fun drawing all kinds of creations! One tip is to have a cup or bucket of water nearby so kids can dip their hands in it after playing to clean them off.
While you are having fun playing outside, why not make your own bubbles while you are at it!
