In My Opinion
Coupons For Criminals
Is there a coupon that is illegal? Yes. Is there an illegal who gets a coupon? It appears that is just what the Metropolitan State College of Denver intends to do. The Metropolitan State College of Denver must not offer the basic course work in Civics. If they did, they would be able to clearly distinguish the the difference between an American citizen and some one who is here illegally. This college is also lacking the knowledge that without a social security card you can't participate in employment legally in the United States. Thus educating people who can't work or pay taxes is not a wise investment.
I again defer to my ability to balance a checkbook, if you invest money into areas that will not provide dividends than what is the point? Does charity begin at home? Where is the education assistance for the citizens of this country who are here legally? Where are the discounts and job opportunities for those who need them? If we continue to make it easy to enjoy the American dream on the tax payer's dime, then aren't we encouraging more people to enter our country illegally?
What happens when we give them The Dream Act? Can their dream actually come to fruition? The quest that is currently in front of the supreme court is a prime example of why throwing money without thinking the whole process through is ineffective and wasteful. We have now educated a person who can't practice the profession they have been trained for. The best part is they went to Florida State University Law School so they know that being illegal is against the rules of our government. The question that remains is if they were smart enough, and had the time to attend college and law school then why aren't they a citizen? Why didn't they take all this time to go through the process to become an American. The answer is it was easier not to. Did they apply? I guess not, and why would they because then their benefits would dissolve. This is just another hole is the system.
The question then becomes who to give amnesty to. Who should be debt free or receive free or reduced services. The person who belongs here or one that doesn't? Does it matter how long you are here when you shouldn't be? Is the theft of the American dream something to tolerate? Why haven't people been deported? I have heard because of cost. What is the current cost and projective cost of continuing the trend? If stealing is wrong then is it less wrong in 6, 8, 10 years? If your family stole for you are you a thief as well? I would say if you know you do not belong here and are illegal and haven't done anything about it, then yes.
It doesn't surprise me that we have this issue, because our country cares so much about doing what is kind instead of enforcing what is right. If you want to be part of the solution then work hard and follow the laws. You know in other countries the government will deport you if your visa expires because they understand the economic implications that people who are illegal impart on a country at large. I would love to help everyone, however my checkbook would not allow for that. We need to realize as a country that investing in the education of people that can't preform the jobs they have been educated towards it a waste of time and money.
I look forward to seeing the supreme courts' ruling on the illegal immigrant that went to law school, and even if he was granted the ability to take the bar he couldn't actually work as a lawyer because he is here against the law. It is quite comical if you think about it. The only problem is, I'm not laughing, because my money is being spent to fund programs that do not result in an increase in revenue or even a return on my investment. The worst part is our President would like to see the Dream Act enacted again. I think it is time for him and this country to wake up and see that you can't give something without expecting a return on your investment.
