Cyber Bullying Pushes Teen to her Suicide – When Will This Stop?
What is wrong with kids these days? I don’t understand the lack of respect, morals and discipline in kids any more. How – and why – are parents letting their children even think that they can treat another human being so terribly?
Another devastating example of teens out of control has come to light from San Jose, California. Partying, lack of parental supervision and technology make a bad mix, especially when cyber bullying takes over. For parents of 16-year old Audrie Pott, their worst nightmare came true with the suicide of their beautiful daughter.
But it was what drove her to that devastating decision that made their pain even worse. After passing out at a friend’s sleepover, three boys sexually assaulted her, drew on intimate parts of her body, and took photos, which were spread through social media and the girl’s school. Eight days later, after dealing with the torment and bullying, Audrie hung herself.
The parents of Audrie are suing not only the three boys who mistreated her, but also the parents of the friend where the party was held, and I hope they win against them all. We need more responsibility from parents and kids, and until that happens, they must be held accountable for their intolerable decisions. I think these 16-year-old boys should be tried as adults too due to the mature nature of their crimes.
We’ve talked about extreme teen behavior here before, but when are we as parents, neighbors, grandparents, aunts, sisters, or teachers going to say; Enough. Is. Enough.?
We each have to take responsibility to talk to our kids about acceptable behavior, what to do when we see bullying, and how to get help. Adults need to show that we care, and we won’t stand for this type of behavior. As a mom of three, it scares me that teens are so out of control, but I have hope that we can change this, even if it is just one child at a time.
What do you think? Is this just part of teens behaving badly or has the time come that we, as adults, must put a stop to this behavior?
