Did Ya Hear About the Mom Who Found a Dandelion Growing In Her Kid’s Ear?
Toddlers are notorious for sticking things in their orifices. I can’t even begin to tell you which parts of the body I have had to extract LEGOs and puzzle pieces from when it comes to my own kids. I’m trying to erase those memories from my mind.
But this news story kind of takes the cake. Doctors in China recently performed surgery on a toddler after it was discovered that a dandelion was growing in her ear. Yes, you read that right – an actual fully formed weed was growing in her ear.
The 16-month-old child, identified as "Ranran," had been scratching at her ear for months. Her parents finally decided to investigate the cause of the itching and low-and-behold…it was the dandelion. Apparently they recall seeing a seed fall into her ear a few months ago and figured it would just fall out or come out in the bath. The doctors believe that the warmth and humidity inside the ear canal encouraged the growth of the dandelion. Really, really weird.
And here’s what also amazes me about the story. Her parents remembered a seed falling into their child’s ear four months ago. I can’t remember what I had for breakfast, let alone one of the many, many strange things that have happened to my kids in the past four months!
So next time you tell your kids "never stick anything in your ear that's smaller than your elbow", you better make sure your little ones are actually listening to you. Unless of course it’s too late and they can’t hear you due to a rose bush that is growing in their head!
