Florida Mom Kills Her 4 Children Before Committing Suicide
A sickening and devastating story has emerged out of Florida this week. Tonya Thomas, a 33-year-old mother, shot and killed her four children before taking her own life early Tuesday morning. Her children, aged between 12 and 17-years-old were ruthlessly shot to death by their own mother, the one person in life who should do everything in her power to protect them.
Early Tuesday morning, three of the children went to a neighbor’s house to tell them that their mother had shot them. The mother came out of her home to call her children home, and unfortunately they obeyed. The neighbor called 911 as the children walked home, but it was too late because Thomas shot her children again, this time killing them. Within minutes of the 911 call, police officers were at the home and heard a final shot as this mother took her own life.
This mother shot her children in cold blood not once, but at least twice.
I am sadden and angered by this story because those children were murdered in their own home. As a mother of 3, I do not, and cannot understand, how a mother could hurt her children, let alone actually kill them. Reports are also showing that police had been called to this home for domestic disturbances in the past, most recently on Easter, which just begs a bunch of questions. Why were they still with her? Didn’t anyone see how sick this woman was? Were the kids aware of the danger?
Obviously this mother was not mentally well. She may have been addicted to drugs or alcohol, been clinically depressed, or had another mental disorder. Yet, there had to have been warning signs that something was wrong. As parents, teachers, coaches, volunteers, neighbors, or friends, we need to be aware of signs of trouble and be willing to say something when something just doesn’t seem right.
If you saw trouble brewing in a family near you, would you say something
