Forget Michael Phelps – Jada Pinkett Smith’s Body Deserves a Medal!
Monday morning... Time to get back into the groove. See what's happening in the world.... Read about important things like the election, the economy, Michael Phelps, and of course, celebrities and their wonderful (jealousy-inducing) lives. With the Olympics (and what was quite possibly the most horrendous opening ceremony in history) on everyone's mind, I could certainly go on and on about something that is fresh on my mind: The BODIES of Olympians, (mainly, the swimmers-- the MALE swimmers to be exact... I mean, seriously. Just, SERIOUSLY). But Michael Phelps and his 15,000 calories-a-day diet is old news, and frankly pisses me off.... and just makes me hungry.
But, over the weekend, there was a photo of another killer body that did catch my eye.... Over the weekend, actress Jada Pinkett Smith tweeted a photo of herself (to her 240,000 followers) in a Missoni string bikini and said:
"To my Forty and over crew! Don't believe the hype…We DO get better with age!"
Here's the thing: Generally, I have a problem of celebs just exposing their bods on twitter or taking obnoxious instagram'd self portraits with pouty lips (it's like I know you just got off set and your eyelashes are not that long!). However, this is one "flaunt it if you got it" photos that I kind of want to cheer for. For starters, she KNOWS she "gots" it, and she makes no apologies for showing it to the world. Her body is tight, her message is strong and frankly, it makes a woman like me, on the brink of being in my "late 30's" feel better about myself.
While I'll probably never have (and by probably never, I mean, there isn't a chance in hell) the kind of tight abs Jada has, I hope that in 4.5 years, when I'm 40, I feel as confident about myself as she does. Most of the time, my twitter photos or facebook photos are carefully constructed so as to cover up my bikini bod or carefully taken so that objects appear smaller in the frame. I've never just taken a full blown body shot and hit "upload!" Never! So good for Jada Pinkett Smith! She watches what she eats, she exercises a lot, and she deserves to feel proud.
On that note, does watching the Olympics count as exercise? I've got to be burning some sort of something I ate rooting for our team, right? (Don't answer that).
