Seeing Black and White: Stars Go Monochromatic at the SAG Awards
With awards season in full swing, and with the crazy alcohol-fueled Golden Globes firmly behind them, celebrities once again hit the red carpet last night in their glamorous Sunday best for the SAG Awards. Many trend-analysts have predicted that we would see a lot of black and white this year and it seems they were right - stars turned up in droves wearing this monochromatic, up-to-the-minute trend. After having the chance to personally attend the Golden Globes with Diet Pepsi two weeks ago and really witness the red-carpet fashion firsthand, I feel like the style at the SAG awards became more of a trial run for the more sophisticated (and also rumored to be more stuffy) Oscars which take place in a few weeks. Since the SAG Awards don't have the same draw as either the Oscars or the Golden Globes it enabled stars to take more risks with their choices and allowed them to showcase new, lesser-known designers.
In addition to black and white, we also saw lots of navy and dark blue. Without further ado, here is your 2013 SAG Awards Style Recap.
Julianne Moore, January Jones, and Julianna Margulies all embraced the black and white combo - so it seems the "J's" have it.
Two of my favorite looks of the night included Naomi Watts in this silver lace number and Sofia Vergara, who was stunning in white. I enjoyed seeing her in this beautifully draped Donna Karan Atelier dress after seeing her in all black at the Golden Globes - and I must say that she really does a wonderful job at dressing her hourglass figure. (For more on how she chooses her dresses for awards season, check out my exclusive interview with Sofia Vergara courtesy of Diet Pepsi.)
Jayma Mays, Kerry Washington, and Jon Hamm's better half Jennifer Westfeldt all looked simply ethereal in white, and Kerry Washington wins my vote for one of my favorite looks of the night in a look that screams both rock princess and just simply princess.
Though they all wore the color of the season, Julie Bowen, Jaimie Alexander, and Kelly Osborne all make my worst-dressed list. I do applaud them for taking risks and embracing trends like leather (Bowen), cutouts (Alexander), and sheer panels (Osborne). Unfortunately, the leather looked cheap, Alexander's dress was just too busy, and I've seen Kelly in more flattering frocks.
Jennifer Lawrence (who ripped her dress almost in half when she excitedly stood up to accept her award) and Amanda Seyfried had two of my favorite looks of the evening in navy blue. Lawrence was stunning in a Dior gown with a deep crimson lip - a look that some hated but that I absolutely loved. Amanda Seyfried was dressed to perfection in her Zac Posen gown - the millefeuille detail at the hem is gorgeous and the dress really showed off her hourglass figure.
What were your favorite looks of the evening?
