Lifetime Movies

Lifetime is Having a Valentine's Weekend Lovefest - And You're All Invited!

As I sit here in rapt attention watching "A Mater of Justice" on Lifetime Movie network  with tears streaming down my face, I've finally begun to understand why I've once again become so invested in this four hour Lifetime miniseries. I realize that I'm drawn to Lifetime movies because I see so much of myself reflected in them and in this miniseries in particular.  In the main character (played brilliantly by Patty Duke) I see myself in her struggle not to be an overbearing mother and I see myself in her marriage as she and her husband struggle to find the love and commitment that initially drew them to one another. And in this multifaceted character, (and of course all Lifetime Movies are chock full of them) if you're a mother struggling to rebuild your life after a child's passing, Ms. Duke's character will resonate with you as well. Ultimately as a mother, a woman, a wife and a daughter- Lifetime movies resonate with me on the most visceral level because within their characters I eerily see little bits of myself.

Of course I've been addicted to Lifetime movies ever since I laid my eyes on Betty Broderick  and whenever this Lifetime movie is on, I have NO Choice but to drop whatever I am doing and watch her, or more aptly put watch Meredith Baxter so brilliantly and poignantly play her scorned womanness. Does that mean that I advocate her unspeakable acts--no - but there is something so tragic about her life's events (and of course Meredith Baxter plays her and her personality quirks to a tee) that I almost cannot look away. The story of a woman, who after putting her husband through law school, bearing his kids and essentially propelling him to the pinnacle of his law career success and all the trappings that go with it-is left for a much younger colleague- well again it just resonates on so many levels

But this is not a post about Betty Broderick or Patty Duke...it is about the fact that my beloved Lifetime is launching two days chock full of love-themed movies the weekend before Valentine’s Day. That's right just in time for the month of love, Lifetime is offering women like me and you tales of romance, lust, unrequited love, complicated love, love that is simple, funny and all sorts of crazy. Just another reason I can, and have been known to watch Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network for weekends on end.
