"Project Runway" Recap: Episode 9

Guest post by Kristin Swenson, Co-Editor of  BonBon Rose Girls

So, I think it's fairly evident that the star of the latest "Project Runway" episode was Olivier...and I don't mean that in a good way. Last week's challenge consisted of the designers splitting up into two teams to design looks for a band. Did I mention the band was comprised of all dudes? Yep...It was a dreaded menswear challenge! The one designer who I assumed would shine in this episode was Olivier given his experience. Color me wrong.

Olivier ended up designing for the lead singer of the band who happened to have a somewhat larger frame than the rest of his mates. That's not to say that he was overweight by any means. At one point, Olivier referred to him as plus sized, which I couldn't wrap my brain around. He really struggled with having to design for this client, much like he did in the previous challenge. I think Bryce said it best when I interviewed him last week. I asked him if he thought Olivier would go all the way and he said that Olivier, "just wasn't ready." If you can't work with a client, how can you be a successful designer?

After seeing the gorgeous looks he sent down the runway at the Fashion Week finale show, I thought for sure that Olivier would end up in the final three...but after seeing last week's episode, I understand why he went home. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him as he is incredibly talented. If he could bring himself to work with my curves, he's welcome to tailor something for me any day! Remember how horrified he was by his client's chest in the episode before last? Who knew breasts were so frightening? Haha!

I know I dedicated this whole post to the eliminated designer, but I couldn't help myself. He provided me with too much material! Until next week lovelies...Make sure to pop on over to my blog, BonBon Rose Girls, each week to read my interviews with the eliminated designers!
