"Dance Moms Miami": Angel’s Golden Rules
Your child might have what it takes to be a real dance star. But do YOU have what it takes to be the perfect dance mom? Choreographer and co-owner of Miami-based Stars Dance Studio, Angel DeArmas Salabert shares his important Do's and Dont's!
Watch Angel in action on "Dance Moms Miami", Lifetime's new docu-series airing Tuesdays at 9/8c on Lifetime.
#1 Pay on time and leave a tip.
#2 Bring your child to class at least 15 minutes before the class begins and pick up your child on time. The dance studio is not a daycare.
#3 Don’t teach your child any dancing. You are the mother, not the dance instructor.
#4 If you have nothing to do, don’t do it here. Don’t waste time sitting around the studio instead of doing something productive and beneficial for your child.
#5 Support your child regardless of how he/she places in competition. It’s my job to push the child, let me be the mean one. Leave your drama at the door!
#6 Be realistic. We all want our kids to succeed but you can’t teach a fish how to run. Therefore, don’t expect that you are going to win every time. Remember dance is an ART so not every judge is going to love your style, costume or dance.
#7 Competition is not your summer vacation!
#8 Keep your opinions to yourself. We are not interested in your bright ideas, amazing dance themes or costumes. It’s our vision not yours.
#9 Be nice and sweet to all dancers. It doesn’t matter where they dance or what style. Support the art of DANCE.
#10 The MOST IMPORTANT RULE: Stay out of your child’s training! Practice makes perfect but it’s a long process. You have to be patient, stay quiet, do what we tell you and eventually you’ll be a star -- so have fun trying.
