Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition
From Dance-Off & To Signing Off... Week 4's Eliminated Mom Speaks Out
Spoiler alert!
In the fourth episode "In a New York Minute" Abby and the judges decided to send Gina and her son Zack back to the studio! Here Gina shares her thoughts about the episode and her son's experience being the only boy in the competition. "Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition" airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Lifetime.
Wow, is all I can say to this experience! While I am glad that Zackery and I were able to do the show, I am a bit disappointed in the way it all turned out. I really wish there was more focus on the kids dancing. I feel the moms are getting more attention than the kids, but I can’t say I’m too surprised.
The girls absolutely loved Zack and he was in his element. He was extremely comfortable around them and they all seemed to get very close, very quickly even though they were competing against each other. I also noticed that being the challenge winner isn’t always a good thing. While I’m not the kind of mom with blinders on, I can see that even though Zack is still trying find his groove, no pun intended, he was still keeping up. As we moved on in the competition the kids were starting to either stand out or not.
Even though I’m not sure Zack should be the clear winner, I know he belonged in the top 5. So I was completely blindsided when he was asked to be part of the dance off to decide who is going home…even though he has NEVER been in the bottom, NOT ONCE! It was also surprising because Abby had just commented on how Zack was out-dancing the girls and made him do the group challenge until he and Amanda were the last two standing.
Although Amanda took the victory I knew Zack was still at the top of his game......until the second dance off. The moment Abby told Elisabeth she was going to "squeak by" another week, not to mention a few others, I knew we were done. I’m not a sore loser and I definitely pride myself on being a gracious person, but I can’t make sense of Zack being the one eliminated especially when Asia has been in the bottom the whole entire time. I mean, really??? I will put Zack against her any day of the week! So while it is what it is, "not Zack’s day" and I am trying to make sense of it, I will say that the experience was still worth it for us and I am glad we were chosen to be a part of this new show. Zack and I both met some amazing people, including Yvette. Although she may seem to be portrayed in a negative light, everyone should know that she is a beautiful person inside and out and I know that each and every one of those dance moms (with the exception of Kristie) would agree.
My first thought as we began the competition is how incredibly ridiculous it is that a 13 year old dancer is competing with a 6 year old dancer. Asia is an extremely gifted dancer, but I feel Abby shot herself in the foot when she made it very clear that this competition was based on technique! It is what she stands for and so I feel she should have stood her ground and made choices reflecting what she is all about.
Zack is continuing to work extra hard as he always does and I know amazing things will happen for him regardless of the outcome of the show, and I will continue to support him (and his sister Mia). I could not be more proud!
