Project Runway

High Kicks, High Style & a Sparkly Look for Moms

This week’s Project Runway challenge was definitely one of my favorites so far this season. I’ve adored the mile long legged Rockettes since I was little lady, so getting to watch the designers create a look for them was an uber delicious treat! Seeing them perform at Radio City Musical Hall is totally on my bucket list. If you’re reading this, my darling hubs, please feel free to plan a trip. Haha!

Not only do I love the Rockettes, but I big puffy heart SPARKLE! Luckily, there was no shortage of shine in this episode. Unfortunately, not all the designers used it to their advantage. And for one designer, sparkle was the enemy.

The past couple of episodes we’ve seen Elena struggle with her preferred aesthetic and giving the judges the variety they’re looking for in a winner. She prefers strong, modern designs and having to use bright colors or more feminine features doesn’t sit well with her.

This week she looked like a lost little lamb in Mood. She had a crazy hard time finding fabric and in the end settled for a cheap looking blue textile. It didn’t end there. As her time at Mood ran out, she blindly grabbed a ton of embellishments that took her look to a bad taste kinda place in no time flat.

It was no surprise when the judges put Elena at the bottom for her band uniform(ish) look, but the design didn’t end up sending her home. Instead, it was Ven who was auffed. While his design didn’t make me cringe, it didn’t make me smile either. It was so so…and at this point, the judges definitely don’t want to be bored! Keeping Michael Kors from yawning should be one of the designers’ primary goals. Just sayin’.

One designer who was definitely on his toes this week was the winner, Christopher. While Dmitry’s one shoulder, edgy number was super sexy, Christopher’s sparkly homage to New York was sheer heaven. He was the clear winner in my book!

Inspired by Christopher’s metallic creation for the Rockettes, I styled a look with a silver and nude color palette. If you’re a fellow glitz luvah, this outfit’s for you! There’s no reason you can’t sparkle in an everyday look!
