Jet-Setting Euro Style and a Gorgeous Gray Look for Moms
I really do say this every season when we reach this point, but I can’t believe we’re almost to the finals. This season of ”Project Runway” has flown by faster than ever! At the beginning of the season, I thought I had a pretty good handle on who was going to make it to the end, but there have definitely been some surprises along the way. I don’t think I could have predicted this final four.
The latest challenge gave the designers every opportunity to be creative. They were each sent to a different European city and, let’s face it, it can’t be hard to find inspiration in Paris, London, Berlin or Barcelona. And even though Michelle’s “punishment” for being at the bottom of the previous challenge was to stay in New York, it’s not like New York doesn’t have a TON to offer in terms of inspiration. They all rose to the challenge in my opinion. Even though the judges didn’t love everyone’s designs, lack of creativity wasn’t the issue.
In the end, it was Layana who was sent home. I would never have guessed that Patricia would be in the final four and not Layana. The judges just didn’t get the jacket she designed which Layana still doesn’t understand. “I really loved my jacket. I loved most of the things I did on the show. You cannot please everybody.” Although, at times she came across as bratty, after speaking with her, I think she’s really just super confident in her talent which is pretty admirable actually. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...I didn’t possess that kind of innate self confidence when I was her age. It’s been amazing interviewing these young designers who are so sure of themselves. I hope my kiddos can take a page from their books someday. Confidence can take you so far in this world.
As far as the final four goes, “I think that fashion week should have been Michelle, Stanley and me. And if there was a fourth person Patricia,” she said. I can’t say I disagree with her, except on the point of Daniel. I think Daniel has created some really beautiful pieces and now that he understands that he has to design for a younger woman, I expect to see some amazing things from him. I think he’s earned his spot. Who’s with me?
Michelle’s gray dress was my favorite piece this time around, so I drew inspiration from the color and styled a chic casual look for you mamas. Gray and gold is one of my favorite color combinations and I they look fabulous when paired with a statement color like orange! I wonder what color palettes we can expect to see from the designers’ upcoming collections? I can’t wait to find out!
