Just Say No to Juniors and Chic Chartreuse for Moms
Remember the snit fit that occurred on the runway during the prom challenge? Well, after seeing how the team groupings played out on the latest challenge, I was afraid we were in for a repeat performance. Layana and Richard were once again paired up and poor Samantha was put in the middle. In a move a teenage girl would have been proud of, Richard flat out refused to speak to Layana. Hello awkward! Unfortunately, it was the least dramatic gal on the show who got the boot. What a bummer to go out on this challenge too. The winner’s look is now being sold at Lord & Taylor.
Samantha decided to design a dress for a juniors client and it just didn’t impress the judges enough to keep her around. Frankly, I was surprised that Richard wasn’t the one to go considering Nina flat out disliked his garment, it was very similar to something he’d already presented and he’d been in the bottom before. Samantha was quite confused by the judges’ final call as well.
When I asked why she thought she went home over Richard she said, “I am completely lost on that. I thought watching it last night, I’ll finally find out why I was sent home. And then I saw the deliberation…Nina and Rachel Roy thought I was stronger than Richard.” As for her thoughts on Richard and whether his dramatics are keeping him around…“I definitely think that he made better tv than me. I just wasn't interested in being a dramatic character at all. That's not what I came there for.” You definitely didn’t see her being as opinionated as some of the others and maybe in the end, that worked against her.
Speaking of being opinionated, there is one designer who usually doesn’t have a problem giving her thoughts on her fellow designers’ garments…The winner of the Lord & Taylor challenge, Michelle, knows what she likes and has strong opinions about what makes good design. Her partner, Stanley didn’t take too kindly to her thoughts on the jacket he originally created, but in the end it looks like she might have helped him. Although the judges weren’t in love with his dress, they didn’t hate it and they clearly loved her take on the challenge!
I absolutely LOVED the chartreuse and khaki colorblock dress that Michelle created, so I used those colors in this week’s challenge inspired look!
