Liz & Dick: A Tale of Fabulous Fashion
If you live for those mouth dropping "who is she wearing" moments watching the Oscars or the Emmy's then you will be in a red carpet kind of coma on November 25th during the Liz & Dick premiere on Lifetime. This steamy movie takes us behind the headlines of Elizabeth Taylor's (Lindsay Lohan) roller coaster love affair with Richard Burton (Grant Bowler), from their affair on the set of "Cleopatra" to their multiple marriages... It's also an incredible depiction and glimpse into the glitz, glamour, and truly, trend-setting world that Elizabeth Taylor presided in.
In an exclusive Q&A, Liz & Dick's Costumer Salvador Perez, said he had four weeks to prep, design and find Elizabeth’s 66 clothing changes for the film, in addition to the entire cast’s costumes and about 1,500 extras’ costumes!
Perez said, "To add authenticity, and because we had limited time to prep this movie, I wanted to use as many vintage outfits as possible. I scoured the vintage shops throughout Los Angeles, and also hit Costume Rentals Corporation where I found some fabulous pieces. I even flew to Portland, Oregon to a fabulous vintage shop I know called Ray’s Ragtime. The collection at Ray’s was amazing; I bought vintage Dior, and Lilli Ann suits, and several of Elizabeth’s party dresses and hats."
In addition to her life long love affair with Richard, Elizabeth had another great love: Diamonds. (Can you blame her???) This movie also highlights the over top baubles and BLING that Liz was known for ROCKING! (Again, can you blame her?!)
While I can only dream of one day owning an emerald and diamond ring .... OR.... a Taj Mahal Diamond (Note: This was a 40th birthday present from her Richard. I'm 36... So one can dream), there are some (er, a FEW) Liz looks that I think I could recreate...
One of my favorite images of the movie is this one.

While her look is probably Prada or Dior head to toe, I thought I'd take a crack at recreating this look with a slight twist, and with MY budget in mind.
This fine knit, sweater from Vince is DARLING and very current. The twisted banding at the neck and ribbed banding at cuffs and hem give this classic Liz look a little edge.
2) Undergarments
Liz was a sex pot... But chances are though, if you're like me, you're not going to just wear a bra under a sheer sweater, and let the world see your tummy. So I would recommend a simple black cami... And might I suggest something that tucks and sucks while you're at it? (Spanx isn't just for your a** anymore, ladies. Hello!)
3) Black Skinnies
When I look at this image of Lindsay as Liz, I think black box theater, beat-neck, Andy Warhol with a classic and elevated twist. And though I can't see what's happening knee down, I can only assume it's a skinny pant. Right now I'm obsessed with the Cafe' Capris in wool from JCrew. They're the perfect length and fit phenomenally. Oh, and they're on sale right now.
4) Shoes, dahling. Shoes
Again, I have no idea what footware exactly LaLohan was wearing here, but I kind of imagine that it's something pointy and chic. For a current twist to something classic, you could pair these pants with a pointy animal print flat like these from JCrew
Or, you can opt for a sexy booty like these Michael Kors booties that I'm currently LUSTING after.
5) Accessories are everything.
Last, but certainly not least, her necklace. I mean, where do you even begin on the sparkle factor. In truth, I'm not sure how I feel about rocking something that is supposed to look like a diamond, but is in no way close to a diamond. So, I would suggest pairing this look with something as chunky and bold but again with an (affordable) twist. This flower lattice necklace from JCrew (can you tell where I shop) is fun and can go with anything from a casual tee and chambray shirt to an elevated look like this.
For more fashion, style, and selaciously TRUE love stories, tune in to the world premiere of “Liz & Dick” on Sunday, November 25 at 9/8c!
