Moms Behaving Badly...(My "Dance Moms: Miami" Episode 4 Recap)
This week I was happy to see that Hannah had at least moved up to fourth on the list, but of course that was followed by Victor saying he didn't think she deserved it -- so that was a downer. I just know that the longer they keep Hannah toward the bottom, the harder she will work. That's just the way she is! I really didn't think the dancers were lacking discipline, maybe us moms were, but the kids work really hard at what they do every day.
When I heard about the duet I was like, "oh no here we go"! The other moms have not been easy on Hannah, Abby included, and there is always a smug look or a comment made in my daughter's direction. The week was not an easy one for me and not an easy one for Hannah either. The other moms had no issues saying that Hannah was the inferior dancer -- including Abby! Abby likes to sit back and say that she never says anything about Hannah and that it is just me against Sammy, but that is the furthest thing from the truth. Hannah was crying at the competition because of Abby's negativity and what she was saying to Hannah. She did not agree with the duet and was very hopeful that Sammy would not have to dance with Hannah. Also, it was not right when Sammy's father cheered only for Sammy during the duet; you don't just cheer for one child when there are two on the stage! In the end it was a good opportunity for Hannah because she had to deal with stepping up and making the best of a difficult situation. On a side note, I also believe that Sammy had to step up her artistry although Abby would never admit it.
I didn't like the trust exercise at all. I don't believe that any child should have to face fear under pressure like that, but Hannah stepped up to the plate and I am proud of her for that.
I am a believer that technique is taught and artistry is something you are born with so Hannah will learn her technique and get better and better because she wants it badly enough. And if she ever decides she doesn't want to dance anymore, then we'll try something else. She is a child and right now this is her dream and nobody, including myself, can take that away from her.
I am not surprised that Brigette told Victor and Angel that I was upset about the duet. That's how she operates. She likes to manipulate situations to her advantage. I also believe that in the end people see you for who you truly are. I did feel Hannah was being set up for failure at that moment and I had to listen for over an hour to three woman tell me just how much they felt Hannah was below Sammy's level. After hearing what Victor had to say, I realized he was right - regardless of what the other moms were saying, it is MY JOB to be my daughter's biggest fan and that's what I was going to be.
In the end I was just happy that it was over. To be honest, I was glad they got a platinum and the special award for emotion but mostly I was just happy it was over. The duet did not win first place and there was only a first place given in duets/trios at this competition so I was as happy with the results as they were. And most importantly, Hannah felt accomplished in what she had done that week.
