Dance Moms
Night of the Living Dancers (My Episode 15 Recap)
Chloe was at the top of the pyramid for TWO WEEKS IN A ROW! I know, I know, I’m going to be broke from buying ICE CREAM FOR EVERYONE!!! But it was an awesome feeling to see her reach that top spot, especially after Abby made it quite clear that she had absolutely no faith in Chloe’s ability to lead the team. She was so excited and I was so happy for her. I think it is encouraging for the girls to see results from all of their hard work, instead of always being told that they are losers and never good enough. But I’m only a mom, not a dance teacher, so call me crazy. (Like it would be the first time someone called me crazy!)
Assignments for the week were handed out and I was thrilled that Brooke and Paige had solos, along with Chloe. I always feel like those two never get to dance enough and I was looking forward to watching them perform. And I was excited that Paige was going to get to do the infamous dance from Vegas that Kelly pulled because she didn’t have the right chair. Now she had the chair, so the solo was a go.
Or was it?
Paige was a nervous wreck before rehearsal because her chair was not finished. And the only reason Kelly did not finish it was because the moms (once again) were relegated to costume duty, so we were working on costumes all day. Kelly assured her that it would be fine and she would have the chair completed before competition. So when Paige went in to rehearse and Abby threw the chair, it went from uncomfortable to insane in .02 seconds. Kelly flipped. And rightfully so. Then she pulled her children and left the studio. And I honestly didn’t know if Kelly or her kids would be back. And Kelly didn’t know. And I would have done the exact same. I was shocked (in a good way) when they pulled into the parking lot the next day.
The argument that ensued with Abby was complex and had so many different emotions. I think people forget that we all have such a long history with one another, that often times, our arguments are often leftover feelings from something that could have happened YEARS ago. I think Dr. Holly said it best with “They have a long, checkered history.” We all do.
Speaking of Dr. Holly, how ‘bout those zombie costumes??? Amaze! First, I need to point out that Holly did Internet research on “zombies”, “creating fake blood” & “distressing fabrics”. Always a student, she took this job very seriously. And we helped her out. (Just a note: the day we were working on costumes outside, we did not know we would be outside or I WOULD HAVE WORN JEANS! Never would I be spray painting costumes in the grass in a sundress!) I thought the girls looked FAB-U-LOUS and I looooooved that dance! So happy it won!
And I also loved Chloe’s solo this week. I thought it was weird and different. I really try to encourage that Chloe do different kinds of solos (like ballet, contemporary, musical theater, etc.) I would much rather have her challenged and stretched as a dancer and maybe not always win, rather than always do the same style. I think that philosophy will serve her much better in the future, if she truly does want to go on to be a professional dancer. So, she and I were happy with third and another amazing performance. I hope you all enjoyed watching. I know I love watching Chloe dance. But, I could be a teensy bit biased ;).
Cheers, Christi
