Our Exclusive Interview With Tim Gunn About "Project Runway" Season 12
The big day is almost here…The Season 12 premiere of "Project Runway" is tomorrow night! I know you fellow "PR" fans are just as excited as I am! And if you love Tim Gunn as much as you love the show, this season is going to knock your socks off! Mr. Gunn will be joining the judges for the runway portion of each episode. He will be able to give them the skinny on what transpired in the workroom and share his opinions of the designers' creations. He'll even have the ability to save a designer, should he so desire.
I may not always agree with the judges' decisions, but I nearly always agree with Mr. Gunn! His taste is flawless, and I, for one, can't wait to watch his new expanded role on the show! I had the pleasure of catching up with Tim recently and I'm happy to report that he will, in fact, invoke his right to save a designer at some point in the upcoming season. If Tim wants to save someone, then obviously that person should stick around, don't you think? He had this to say about his new role: "I was very nervous, very apprehensive about this, because it's a new role for me. And I ended up loving it! I just loved being able to share that additional dimension of information with them." I have to think that if he had always been able to do that, then perhaps some different elimination decisions might have been made, but I digress…
I'm always thinking about you fabulous mamas when I'm interviewing someone, so I of course had to throw Tim a style question for moms. I asked him which of the designers he thought would do best with the challenge to create a comfortable yet chic look for moms. He responded, "I think it would be a great challenge for a future season. I mean, in theory every one of the designers should be able to do a great job of this."
And I agree with him. I've been most fascinated by designers who were able to go outside their comfort zones, rise to the challenge and create beautiful garments even if they weren't necessarily in line with their aesthetic. "To say, 'Oh, I don't do that' — well, you're not going to have a business, or you're going to have such a rarefied business that you won't be able to make a living," Tim said. He went on to say, "So anyone, in fact, should be able to handle it. And, quite frankly, if they can't, maybe they shouldn't be in this industry. Honestly, Season 13 we should do this challenge. And we should use Lifetime Moms." I second that, Tim! I know you all would love to see a challenge devoted to helping moms see just how chic and fabulous they can be!
So, are you as pumped about the season premiere as I am?!?
