Peach Carr's Guide to Looking Stylish, Slim and Age-Appropriate for Spring

We all want to look stylish – but looking fashionable and age-appropriate can be a hard balance to strike. Follow the lead of Peach Carr of "Project Runway All Stars" with these four easy tips.

Q: What are some "look slim" styling tips for moms?

A: One common mistake many women make is wearing clothes that are too tight. Err on the generous side if you are unsure about fit. Also, wearing darker colors on bottom and lighter colors on top draws the eye toward your beautiful face! Avoid severely tapered slacks or the dreaded leggings if you aren't built like Heidi Klum. They add pounds to most women in a hot minute.

A: Skirt lengths are all over the map these days. If you are tall, your options are wide-open, but for the "less than statuesque" like myself, I love a hemline just above or just below the knee; pencil skirts that hit just below are hot for everyone. It's my favorite look for spring right now, and I am showing a black-and-white striped one in my spring '13 collection. Bring the sexy by adding a lower-neckline top.

As far as pants go, I am all over an ankle-length tapered pant – it is a smoking-hot way to look polished yet current. They look fab on any body type or height. Buy a fabulous black or candy-colored pair and add a cute button-down shirt and blazer. Please avoid a capri cut ... SO over! Just above the ankle does the trick. Think Audrey Hepburn or Laura Petrie.

Q: What are some investment pieces that moms should spend their money on?

A: Spend some money this spring on an amazing pair of ankle pants, a pencil skirt, a candy-colored bag and some seriously fabulous flats. Also, make sure you have something in black and white stripes. Add a basic tee and let your statement pieces do the talking.

Q: Are there any celebrity moms who have "nailed it" in terms of looking stylish yet not too over-the-top?

A: My girl Jennifer Hudson is a fashionable hot mom who looks relevant and current without appearing too over-the-top. Gwyneth Paltrow also nails it every time, as does Liv Tyler. Beautiful.
