Project Runway
Project Runway Season 10, Episode 12: Does Anyone Know What Avant-Garde Means?!
This was the final challenge before fashion week! And if you decided to drink every time someone said avant-garde in this week's episode of Project Runway, then I'm going to predict you were drunk in about 12 minutes.
This was the L'Oréal Paris make up challenge and designers had to create an avant-garde look inspired by the characters and colors in the company's electric fantasie cosmetics collection. Designers had 2 days and 400 dollars to spend on fabric.
Avant-garde means innovative, experimental and pushing the boundaries of fashion. This really seemed like Fabio's cup of tea. His muse was the Enchanted Queen and he came up with the kooky idea of turning the jacket upside down. It actually worked except the rest of the outfit was troubling and unflattering.

Melissa, inspired by the Artsy Muse, created a look that Heidi and I hope to never see again but the rest of of the judges were absolutely gushing over it.

Christopher (who I love!) had the Enchanted Queen (like Fabio) and created this dress...

A little costumey and it did nothing for her chest but who doesn't love feathered forearms?
Unbelievably, Dmitry (who had the Wise Mystic) won for this suit...

Despite The Chippendale's neckline, the judges thought it was well tailored, impeccable work. But I don't get it. Isn't it just a suit? It doesn't seem avant-garde to me. (Drink!)
And poor Sonjia got eliminated for this striking dress...

It was supposed to feel like a Seductive Temptress and Heidi adored it. But Michael Kors thought it looked like Nancy Kerrigan skated through a banquet hall and the linens blew all over her. I think he may have a point.
This competition really should have been sponsored by coffee because all the designers were so tired. Well, now the final four get to go home and work on their lines for fashion week.
I can't wait for Tim's critiques. Nothing makes a designer shake in their avant-garde boots like a visit from Tim!
