Sabotage Will Only Get You So Far…(My "Dance Moms: Miami" Episode 4 Recap)
I liked the theme this week. I think it is good to talk about discipline and rules and regulations, we live in a world of structure and it is always a good lesson. I don't know about the other kids, but Jessi is well disciplined and has plenty of structure. Jessi finally got a solo again and of course I was excited. I didn't really like her first solo because I thought it was too mature for her age and I wasn’t crazy about the music. In no way did it reflect who Jessi was as a dancer. I am thrilled that she gets a chance to show America who Jessi really is.
When she started dancing her solo, I was thinking of how far she has come. As I said in an earlier post, she was the chubby little girl that used to get made fun of at dance class. My ugly duckling has become
a pretty swan. I was so proud of her and her dancing and most of all that she was following her dreams and I was just so proud.
Many people think winning is important - but to me it really isn't. People have said many things about the first solo and that I was crying because she got second place. That is a total misstatement. I don't get upset
about her winning or not. What upsets me is when she sells herself short on stage. She is an amazing technical dancer. When she dances at the studio she is always flawless but the nerves always get to her.
I always tell her that it is not about winning. If you go on that stage and give it all you’ve got and you don't win, I don't care because I am proud of you no matter what. I just hate when she sells herself
short. I thought she was flawless but I’m not one of the judges. In my eyes, she always deserves first because I am her mother!
Sabotage is an ugly word, but Debi did try to sabotage Jessi in her first solo by bringing on all this fighting before she competed. She knows how nervous Jessi gets competing and I couldn't believe she went that low. Was I surprised that she went to tell Victor to water down Sammy's routine so she wouldn’t win? No I was not surprised. I respect Abby for waiting until after the competition to address it with Victor and Angel, I would have done the same thing. It was something that bothered her and she needed to address the situation.
