Project Runway
Season 10, Episode 10: Designing for the Rockettes and a Shocking Elimination
In this week's challenge, the final seven designers must create an outfit for the famous Radio City Rockettes! Out of only rubber bands and duct tape!! Can the designers do it?!

Oh, just kidding. They get to use fabric from Mood. And the winning design will be worn by The Rockettes in one of their shows.
Elena immediately starts having problems, going 150 bucks over budget and designing some kind of bright blue cheer leading/ ice skating outfit. It also happens to be really ugly. But when the designers are awarded a night off from working for dinner and drinks, she actually apologizes to Dmitry for being a bitch all season. It's a nice moment between them and it makes me think that maybe an abundance of wine could also help the Middle East peace process.
Back to the workroom. Sonjia is also struggling with her Rockette outfit and just starts sticking feathers everywhere. Christopher comes up with the idea of a New York City skyline for his design and it looks pretty spectacular from the start. But Tim Gunn recommends that he lengthen the skirt a bit so it's less "crotch exposing."
At one point, the designers even get the opportunity to go back to Mood to buy more fabric and beading but it doesn't seem to really help anyone who decides to makes the trip.
It's no surprise who wins this challenge. Christopher just rocked it with this...

And the judges also loved Dmitry's look which they described as modern and polished. Although I'm pretty sure I can see boobs and The Rockettes are supposed to be family friendly.

Sonjia was criticized across the board for creating a "disco turkey."

But Elena's dress was truly hideous. Heidi describe it as crazy. I just sort of feel sorry for the model who actually had to wear it.

So I was already saying my goodbyes to the colorful Elena when the judges announce that Ven is out. What the hell?
This is Ven's dress...

Super boring? Yes. The worst dress of the bunch? Hell no. Guest judge Debra Messing actually liked it and I like her so by the transitive property, I liked Ven's dress too!
Ven is not my favorite guy. Remember when he made his client cry because he thought she was too fat?! Bastard. But he didn't deserve to be kicked off for this dress. I think the producers just wanted to keep Elena because her personality is so much more volatile and entertaining. But this show is about fashion!! I am writing an appeal letter on cloth made from Ven's signature layered flowers. It seems like the right thing to do.
Meanwhile, next week designers must create an outfit for babies?! I can't wait to see the infants walk the runway!
