Project Runway

Team Twists and a Flowery Look for Moms

So, clearly the “Project Runway” producers read my last post and decided to take my advice and switch up the teams. Haha! Really though…I don’t see how much longer they could have let the teams stay as they were. The poor Dream Team seemed to be on an unstoppable downward spiral. Even one of the designers agreed. I had the chance to speak with Joe and when asked about his thoughts on the teams changing he said, “I think it was totally necessary. We could see the other team kind of struggling.” It really was like a breath of fresh air when they shook things up. As was the latest challenge…You gotta love the unconventional challenges!

When the designers were tasked with creating garments that had hard and soft elements using materials from flower and hardware shops, I was pumped! Something sweet paired with something decidedly more edgy has always been a favorite combination of mine. Plus, I looooooooove the Rose Parade, so looks created from flowers and such definitely speak to me.

Both teams did an impressive job. Team Keepin’ it Real didn’t run away with the win in its usual fashion. In fact, the Dream Team came out on top thanks to their teamwork and more cohesive collection. I can see why the judges chose them as the winning team and named Samantha’s amazing mesh over leaves creation the winning design, but the girly girl in me couldn’t help but be enamored with Kate’s  beautifully fitted, full-skirted frock.

As much as I loved Kate’s look, I disliked Patricia’s. I just didn’t get it. Maybe I’m not artsy enough? I just didn’t think Joe’s sweater dress was the losing look, but that’s the way the cookie crumbled. Joe was confused by the judges’ decision as well. When asked what he was thinking at judging he said, “I was mostly mystified. It was really hard to tell what they were thinking.” As far as Patricia goes, he had this to say, “I think I quickly realized that the judges are looking for something pretty commercial. It was pretty confusing to see how they were reacting to Patricia’s designs which were off the beaten path.” For some reason the judges seem to have taken to Patricia in a way they never quite did with poor Joe.

On a side note, is anyone else dying for one of Joe’s cat adorned sweaters? I know I’m not the only crazy cat lady out there! I totally had to check out his Etsy shop, Pretty Snake after I spoke with him. Not only are there the supremely cool cat sweaters available in the shop, but you can find tees and tanks too. I do believe I’m going to have to add one to my spring wardrobe!

And on to today’s episode inspired look…While I think floral prints can take a turn toward old lady town fast, there are some florals that I can get behind. So, I decided to tackle one of spring’s hottest trends, which just so happens to be floral prints. If bare arms aren’t a possibility for you yet thanks to cold weather, simply throw on a leather biker jacket to amp up the edge factor and ward off the chill!
