The Big Apple…Cores! (My Episode 18, Season 3 Recap)
The Candy Apples hit the Big Apple, and it was nothing short of a wildly successful trip. Let’s start from the beginning.
We discovered our new dancer, Victoria, during an open audition that we held, and she was just what we were looking for – a triple threat:
- She is unbelievably talented.
- She is absolutely gorgeous.
- She is from Studio Larkin, which we knew would ruffle Abby’s pterodactyl feathers – a major bonus in my book!
While we were in the throes of rehearsing for the competition, Zack got a text from Brooke telling him that the girls were going ice skating … without Abby. Now, everyone knows that you don’t risk injury by doing something foolish before a major competition, so I decided to show up just to keep an eye on the gang from ALDC. Since Abby wasn’t chaperoning the trip, I figured that I should at least be there to take control of the situation in case somebody hurt herself.
The combination of being in New York for the competition, having a new dancer in the group and the pressure to win again caused tensions to run high, and this resulted in an argument between me and Anthony. Anthony is an extremely focused and talented choreographer, but he gets rattled easily, and I need to keep him check sometimes. I’m his boss, and he has to realize that, but he gets stressed out when I interject; he feels like I’m stepping on his toes. With that said, we both have the same goal, which is to win – so we chalked things up to a misunderstanding and moved on.
Anthony and Rick had a similar fight. While Anthony doesn’t throw chairs or yell at everyone like SOMEBODY ELSE we all know, he does make certain demands on the dancers. Rick needs to understand that this is how Anthony operates and he can’t get offended by it. Again, we are all working toward the same goal – and that’s victory.
Now, about the Paige mess. As a dance instructor and educator, I feel that I have earned a right to critique other dancers. Abby never misses a chance to rip our team apart – she has criticized Zack on numerous occasions, pointing out when he has sickled feet, etc. So why shouldn’t I be able to do the same? Anthony asked me who the kid was that didn’t know her choreography – she wasn’t as confident as the others and he immediately noticed it. Well, Abby has rabbit ears and was trying to listen in on the conversation, which was fine, but she should have just let things be. She should NEVER have called Paige over in front of everyone to ask Anthony about it; she set her up. I do have to say that Paige was diplomatic and classy about it – but then Kelly started screaming like a maniac (even though she hadn’t heard the entire exchange) and personally attacked Vivi about always being sick while she was at it. She was clearly grasping at anything to throw back at us. What she should have done was quietly ask us what we were saying, instead of carrying on and making wild accusations.
It came as no surprise to us that the Apple Cores won the group dance. Winning is always euphoric, but it makes things even more fun when we take Abby and the rest of the ALDC down! She claims that we aren’t in the same league, but she clearly sees me as a threat, since she is constantly talking about us! Abby is learning that we are a force to be reckoned with and we aren’t going anywhere.
