The Definition Avant-Garde And a Powerful Look for Moms
Can you believe there are only two episodes left until the season finale of Project Runway? This season has really flown by no?
When the season began, I don’t know that I would have been able to predict who the four remaining designers would be at this point. I certainly thought Ven would go farther. It’s been obvious for several episodes that Christopher and Dmitry would make it to the end, but I was a little surprised to see Fabio and Melissa in the final four. And I really thought that Sonjia would show at fashion week. Unfortunately, only Heidi dug her creation this week. Speaking of this week’s challenge…
The latest challenge was to create an avant-garde look and, I have to say, I expected the designers to take their looks a bit further than they did. With a larger than usual budget and the freedom to go all out, I was surprised to see them take a somewhat tame approach. That’s not to say that I didn’t appreciate the work that went into their designs.
Dmitry’s jacket was spectacular as always. That dude puts the F in FIERCE! And Christopher’s gown was certainly interesting, although I agree with guest judge Zoe Saldana that the ill fitting bodice was distracting. Melissa’s dramatic skirt was lovely on the runway and Fabio’s jacket is definitely something I would die to rock but I didn’t love Sonjia’s design…How did you all feel about it? Like the judges, I couldn’t get past the Spanx(ish) fabric that covered the back of the gown. Despite this misstep, I’m confident that we haven’t seen the last of Sanjia! I dug her designs more often than not and I’m excited to see where she goes in the future!
It’s a bit difficult to style a wearable avant-garde(ish) look for moms, so I drew inspiration from Dmitry’s structured jacket and created a strong look for when you want to inject a little POWER into your day! Paired with on oversized t-shirt, faux leather leggings and accessories in bold primary hues, this ensemble will stomp on the wallflower in you!
