Project Runway

The Final Elimination and a Budget Friendly Look for Moms

I was kind of hoping that they would forgo the latest “Project Runway All Stars” elimination, but, alas, one of the final four did indeed go home on Thursday night’s episode. I dig these finalists so much because they all bring something different to the table. So, I would have really enjoyed seeing all four of them show their collections. Sadly, the judges didn’t ask for my input. Le sigh.

I’m surprised that the judges were able to make a decision at all after the way the contestants performed. Following a whirlwind twenty-four hour trip to Paris to attend a Valentino show, the designers were asked to design a couture inspired look. First of all, Valentino creates the stuff dreams are made of. Their gowns are heavenly creations and I can only imagine how inspiring it was for the designers to be up close and personal with them. Plus, a larger than usual materials budget probably didn’t hurt the old creative process. While, I didn’t necessarily understand all the fabric choices, namely Joshua’s matronly(ish) print, all the designers showed what they were made of with this challenge! Although, some had an easier time than others.

Emilio selected one of the most beautiful fabrics I’ve ever seen on Project Runway and he definitely did it justice with the gorgeous long-sleeved, floor-length gown he created. Although, Isaac’s suggestion that it could have been improved a bit by raising the hemline was genius. I would have loved to have seen a peek of ankle! That being said, he was my choice for the winner. The judges’ choice, however, was Anthony Ryan. Considering he threw his first dress on the floor and started over, the end result was pretty darn fabulous. The tough girl gown was wicked hot and totally something I could see Rooney Mara rockin’! Uli and Joshua’s looks weren’t quite as strong, but they had potential. I think that’s why the judges couldn’t send one of them home for them, because the creativity and inspiration were there. The garments just needed tweaking.

So, they were each given another chance when they were asked to deconstruct their gowns and create a completely different look in…wait for it…an hour. The designs they came up with were better than their original looks! Joshua’s print looked so much younger when paired with a plunging neckline and it’s inconceivable that Uli created her gorgeous jacket in just an hour! In the end, Joshua was sent home. He insisted that we haven’t seen the last of him and I hope he’s right!

Since, I was so enamored with Emilio’s fabric and with Valentine’s Day just a few weeks away, I decided to style a red infused look for moms. The best part is that this entire look can be scored for UNDER $150.00!
