The Roaring Twenties and a New Year’s Eve Look for Moms

Is there a book from your youth that you have returned to again and again as an adult? "The Great Gatsby" is that book for me. I was introduced to it in school and have never stopped being fascinated by it. While the tragic plot is engaging enough on its own…I continue to eat up the glorious twenties fashion as well. I pretty much want to be a flapper every year for Halloween. Am I alone? The glamour…the feathers…the fringe…I LOVE IT ALL!

So, obviously, I was super psyched about this week’s "Project Runway All Stars" challenge! The designers were tasked with creating a modern twenties inspired look and two designers in particular knocked it out of the park with their garments.

It was no surprise to me when Uli and Anthony Ryan landed in the top scores category. Their fringe adorned dresses were ridiculously fun and perfect for New Year’s Eve. Although, I loved them both, I agree with the judges that Anthony Ryan had the slight edge. The white fringe that Uli used wasn’t my favorite, but it probably wouldn’t stop me from rockin’ her dress. Did I mention that I’m tempted to dress like a flapper every New Year’s Eve too? Haha!

As far as the low scorers go, I half expected Ivy to go home. She’s struggled a bit as of late and I didn’t find her garment all that appealing. The top of Laura Kathleen’s look, on the other hand, was exquisite. And although, the pants were rather ill fitting, I don’t know if the look should have sent her home, but I digress…

When I had the chance to speak with Laura Kathleen, it was all love and light. She certainly doesn’t come across as the spoiled brat that others seemed to think she was. When asked about her time on All Stars, she said, “I really enjoyed all stars. I actually enjoyed the people and became better friends with them than on my season.” And she truly seemed to be ok with her time being up. When asked if she had any regrets about her performance on All Stars, she responded, “I really didn't have any regrets which really put me at peace saying goodbye.”

I have to say, I quite enjoy Laura Kathleen’s overall aesthetic. Luckily for me, Uli is still in the competition. Even Laura Kathleen acknowledged that their taste is very much alike. When I asked her who she would like to design a look for her to wear, she said, “Uli and I have very similar taste. So, I would love Uli to design something for me.” Me too LK…Me too!

Since we’re closing in on the holidays and New Year’s Eve is nearly upon us, I decided to style a New Year’s Eve party perfect ensemble. Twenties glam just screams New Year’s Eve don’t you think?!?
