Project Runway
The Winner’s Circle and a Sophisticated Look for Moms
Well, that’s all she wrote folks. The tenth anniversary season of Project Runway is officially over. Did you have as much fun watching it as I did? I’m not going to lie. It’s rare that I don’t get addicted to a Project Runway season, but this one, in particular, really captured my fancy and I think it’s because I dug the winner so much. I wanted to rock pretty much every single thing this person sent down the runway…and how often does that happen?
Going into the second part of the finale episode, it appeared as if the finalists had their work cut out for them. The judges weren’t really wow’d by any of their sneak peek designs. Luckily for them, they were all put through and we had the pleasure of watching all four collections go down the runway.
Fabio’s pastel infused collection definitely had his name all over it. I probably wouldn’t wear most of the pieces, but I did enjoy watching him present. Melissa and Chris also sent down some designs that I didn’t necessarily love, but I would totally rock Melissa’s blood orange frock and Christopher’s distressed leather. As for the winner…I wasn’t kidding when I said I would rock his ENTIRE collection. His sophisticated, edgy, yet classic aesthetic rocks my world!
I had the chance to speak with Dmitry after his win and I’m even more of a fan now. I didn’t think that was possible, but he was a pleasure to chat with and know he’s on the cusp of making a major name for himself in fashion! He’s already made quite an impression on our beloved Mr. Gunn.
When I told him that Tim Gunn had called his story the American dream and asked if he felt that way too, he said, “Absolutely...I came to the U.S. when I was 18 with big dreams, without really knowing anyone and with a couple hundred dollars in my pocket. A lot of people would say the American dream isn’t alive anymore, but I’m proof that it is.”
Now that Project Runway has given him his “wings” as he called them, I asked where he intended to fly and he responded, “I definitely want to start my own brand.” It should be no surprise then that his favorite fellow Project Runway winner is Christian Siriano. “He’s definitely the most successful. He’s done a great job,” Dmitry said of Christian. Just like Christian, I can see Dmitry appealing to many different types of women. When I asked what type of woman he sees wearing his clothes he said, “I design for every woman in a way. She's ageless. I feel like my pieces can be worn by young girls or more mature women. This woman is definitely a collector. She builds her wardrobe. She buys special pieces.” Well, this woman would LOVE to buy herself one of Dmitry’s special pieces! And I’m sure I’m not alone!
One of my favorite things about chatting with Dmitry was the positive energy that he radiated. When I asked him what he would like to say to all his fans he replied, “I would want to say we all have dreams and goals. If you really have a dream, you should go after it no matter what. We only have one life and it's pretty short, so make the most of it!” Yeah…It was a Conan O’Brien kinda moment!
In honor of Dmitry and his win, I styled the final season ten episode inspired look for the woman who wants a classic, yet strong and undeniably sexy look!
