Project Runway

Wearable Art and a Cocktail Party Ready Look for Moms

Did anyone inwardly groan when they learned what the latest “Project Runway All Stars” challenge was? Remember the graffiti festooned Louis Vuitton bags that everyone went crazy over back in the day? I was not one of those people. Graffiti can veer to the VERY tacky side quickly, but I was pleasantly surprised with the way the designers interpreted the wearable art challenge. The designs could have been a whole lot scarier! Just sayin’.

There were a few looks that I would definitely rock if given the opportunity! I, of course, loved Anthony Ryan’s print because I will forever be obsessed with cobalt. Do you have a happy color? Cobalt is most definitely mine! Also, Emilio’s sunset hued jacket was amazing no?!?

I don’t think it was any surprise that Suede was sent home for his polka dot creation. I hopped on a call with him after his elimination and when asked if he agreed with Isaac’s critical take on his garment he didn’t necessarily agree with Isaac’s opinion, but it wasn’t a shock to him either as “an art piece is so open to interpretation.”

While he might have struggled a bit with this challenge, one thing he doesn’t struggle with is how to work his image. When asked why he refers to himself in the third person he replied, “I did it occasionally when I was in college. It kind of just stuck and people remember it. You don't want to be on tv and not have people remember you.” Very savvy dear Suede…very savvy! I wonder if they all really think about how they look on tv? On that note, I couldn’t let him escape without asking about the Ivy and Laura Kathleen drama. “I really don't have time for drama. I think people should just stick to designing but I guess that wouldn't make for very good tv,” he said. Touche!

I have to say I’ll miss him. Kristin really dug Suede’s vibe. See what I did there? Haha!

I looked to Anthony Ryan’s design for inspiration this week. I decided to style a little cocktail party-ready ensemble as I’ve been dealing with sick kiddos for days and I could definitely use a grown-up, dress up kinda night right now! Who’s with me?
