Zac Posen On His Fellow Judges, His Dream Challenge & Kelly Osbourne!
If you’re a long time “Project Runway” fan like me, you might have been a bit upset when Michael Kors vacated his judge’s seat last season. While I had nothing against Zac Posen, I’d grown to love Mr. Kors’ dry humor and couldn’t imagine the runway without it. Well, thankfully Zac Posen has been a breath of fresh air. While he hasn’t been able to replace Michael Kors (who could?!?) he has added a different dimension to judging.
I had a chance to chat with Zac about his "Project Runway" role recently and he turned out to be just as lovely as he comes across on screen. He is definitely outspoken, much like his predecessor, but he brings his own personality to the table and it’s clear that his critiques come from a kind place. Although, he may differ from his fellow judges in his delivery, he obviously values their opinions.
When asked if he has learned anything from his fellow judges that he’s taken back to his own work room he said, “I’ve definitely learned that it’s always interesting to get into the head of Nina, who I’ve worked with for over a decade and has been a close friend and just sort of hear and see how she’s looking at fashion at the moment. And, you know, I think Tim and I are very much on the same page throughout each episode. And I think it’s a great dialogue.” Agreed…I’m loving what Tim is bringing to the table at judging this year and the four of them together have such interesting opinions no?
For instance, it’s obvious that Zac appreciates a good gown and he won’t let the designers get away with a shoddy one. In fact, when asked what challenge he would like to put before the designers, he responded, “Zac’s glamour red carpet challenge. Something that is red carpet worthy, that is news, a dress that is photographable, that presents their point of view as a designer but is appropriate for that major on the red carpet, super-star moment.” I’m all for a Cinderella moment! Who’s with me? I bet Kelly Osbourne is. Haha! She’s certainly critiqued many of them!
And speaking of Ms. Osbourne…When I asked Zac about who his favorite guest judges were, his first response was, “Well, Kelly Osbourne is a super star. I mean, not only is she one of my best friends in the world, and I adore her, but she is excited about fashion. And she loves it. And she thrives on it. So, she was an exquisite judge.” I love it when designers and celebs are friends. It always seems to bring about such great moments in fashion history, but I digress…It was just wonderful speaking with Zac about “Project Runway” and I can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us this season!
