How Do You Compete With an Ex-Stripper?
My very close girlfriend is an accomplished entrepreneur with a million-dollar business. Now. Years ago, she was a stripper. I'm sorry, a "dancer." This fact rarely comes up in conversation and she and I were friends for years before she ever told me about her past. And it is something you would never associate with who she is today.
That is, until we are out dancing or at any lounge playing music and she's had a few drinks. Then, slap a pole in the middle of whatever room we are in, because it is showtime! Oh, she can also work a chair.
This didn't really bother me until I recently started becoming more interested in meeting single men and I realized every time we are out and a few men come around us, it doesn't take too long before she's playfully doing a few drop-it-like-it's-hot moves.
And I can barely drop it like it's lukewarm. ...Maybe tepid.
She's my very best hang-out partner, not afraid to put on the Spanx and the knee-high boots with me on short notice, so we can hit the town like two hot mamas, and not as the two 40-something mothers we actually are.
But I can't compete with an ex-stripper.
I've told myself I'm looking for a quality man and if he's only interested in stripper moves and can't see past her hips to my glowing personality, warmth and charisma then he is not the guy for me. But who am I kidding? That guy doesn't exist. And I've got a serious problem on my hands.
I'm thinking about taking a few of those pole dancing classes so I can at least hold my own. I don't want to talk to her about it and let her think I'm jealous of her gyrations (I so am!).
Do I ditch my favorite hang out partner? Or increase my stripper-ability? How do you compete with an ex-stripper?
