If Your Brother Dates Strippers, Should You Take it Personally?
My brother has horrible taste in women. And by horrible I mean slutty. Not slut, in the idiotic Rush Limbaugh sense of the word but, and no judgment here, in the strip and pole dance for money sense of the word.
I'm sure there are many women who are stripping to pay for college and other noble financial goals, but my brother doesn't seem to find these ones either.
And I'm starting to wonder why the younger brother of two double-degreed successful women who is also the son of parents who have been happily married for over 50 years, keeps introducing me to girlfriends named "Sunshine" and "Peaches". Seriously??
I try not to pass judgment on my brother or these women (the last one owned a nice home in the suburbs and mentioned she had another business. I was scared to ask what that was) and my brother is a college grad himself with a six figure salary. For a while, I chalked it up to his youth, but he's hit mid-thirties and the stripper saga continues.
Meanwhile, every time I invite him to a professional networking event or someplace where he can meet women who actually earn a living with their clothes on and don't require a stash of dollar bills, he makes excuses and heads right back over to the Pussycat Lounge.
Do sibling experiences influence our picks in relationships?
For years experts have said that our fathers and mothers are the prime factors in our relationship issues and selections, but I can't help but wonder whether our brothers and sisters also play a part.
In fact, I'm starting to think my brother hates me. And my sister and my mother for that matter since he actively seeks women who are the very antithesis of everything we stand for.
Granted, I'm a little slutty behind closed doors. But certainly not for money.
What does this mean? If my over-achieving, yet divorced ways have driven my little brother to the pole for companionship then I'll feel really awful.
How do you feel about your siblings picks in relationships? And how many more "meet the stripper girlfriend" lunches are within my big sister duty to sit through before I snap and get all judgmental?
