How to Have a Romantic Valentine’s Day – Even If You Have Kids
Valentine's Day is on a Thursday. It'll be tough (and expensive) to get a sitter. Plus it's a work/school night. So how does a mom rock Valentine's Day on a weeknight and on a budget?
Let me break it down for you, ladies. For a dude, Valentine's Day = Sex. It's that simple. No need to worry about maxing out your credit card because all your guy really wants for Valentine's Day is you. So here's how to make Valentine's Day 2013 his best one yet.
Step 1: Write or text him a love note in the morning. Something like, "Got a special night planned. Hurry home!" That'll get the wheels turning in his mind.
Step 2: Get the kids to bed early. Set the clocks in the house ahead two hours. Make them a big cup of Sleepytime Tea with honey. Tell them you'll pay them five bucks to go to sleep. Whatever it takes to get the house (almost) to yourselves.
Step 3: Set an elegant table. Crystal, china, candles, champagne chilling in an ice bucket and romantic music.
Step 4: Make a nice dinner that isn't too complicated, messy or heavy. You want to look and feel fabulous afterwards.
Step 5: Dress the part. In terms of outfits, you have a few choices. Do you want him to be able to focus on the delicious meal you made and to really enjoy dessert? Then wear something pretty but not overtly sexy, and change afterwards. For your post-dinner outfit:
Look in your closet. Do you have:
1. A black blazer
2. Sexy black or red pumps or peep toes
3. Red or black bra and panty set (hoose a "ruffle" style to hide any post-baby pooch)
4. Black stockings with garter belt (optional but totally hot)
5. Cheap reading glasses (found at most dollar stores)
6. Red lipstick
After dinner, (or whenever you're sure the kids are asleep) head to bed and tell him to come up in ten minutes. Light some candles, put on some soft music, pin your hair in a loose bun (that can be removed with one hand) and be waiting for him in the above-described outfit. Be sure to have him lock the bedroom door!
There you have it. Everything you need to make this Valentine's Day a great one. Now go knock your man's socks off like you know you can!
