2012 MamaScopes: Cancer
Team Cancer’s where it’s at this year, thanks to lucky planet Jupiter’s journey through your sector of groups during the first six months of the year. It’s a great time for getting involved, whether through service projects in your community, fundraising at your child’s school, or meetups that pertain to your interests. This whole year is great for charity work, so find a way to get involved in a cause close to your heart. The more your kids can be involved, the better.
The second half of 2012 is much more private—and actually, you might not mind that. It’s been an incredibly social cycle since 2009, and while you’ve been pulled way out of that safe little “crabshell,” you’re ready for a retreat. From June 2012-June 2013, Jupiter is in Gemini, your twelfth house of healing, closure and spirituality. Your energy could flag a bit, or there could be some important changes in your life. Maybe it’s time for you to move on to a new job or a new relationship, or you may even get pregnant again. As a Cancer, you’re no fan of goodbyes or endings…but sometimes it’s necessary to just let things go. Already planning your family’s summer vacation? Take an extended trip near water—rent a beach house, join your community pool (if going away is out of the question), or pack up the car with camping gear and pitch a tent near a local lake. Attend sailing lessons as a family or maybe just dig out the old canoe and paddle until your arms are sore.
Are you a mom holding down a part-time or full-time job? Stay tuned for career changes this year. Be flexible and open to new opportunities, and keep your eye out for positions that are aligned with your passions. You usually prefer stability, but you could be interested in a job that gives you more flexibility…especially if you still have little ones in the nest. Pick up different shifts so that you can spend more time at home, or keep your ear to the ground for freelance work that allows you to work virtually and make your own schedule. If technology isn’t already part of your job, then it could be in your future! Make yourself more marketable by advancing your computer skills. Take a class at a local college or hire a tutor to teach you the ropes.
As for romance, single moms should be on the lookout for a man with youthful energy, someone who’s active and also has some backbone. The worst kind of partner for you is someone who doesn’t give you any pushback. You need a mate who challenges you, so steer clear of “yes men.” Married Cancers are going through a slow transformation in your relationship, a shifting of roles, power dynamics or the way you interact. Your marriage may not match that picture-perfect, 1950s fantasy (in fact, you may have a Mr. Mom at home, or bring in more income than your spouse), but who cares? As long as you and your hubby are happy, that’s what counts.
For the past couple of years, you haven’t had much time to focus on your home and family, and all things domestic could be showing a little wear and tear. Maybe your home has been on the market for months (or even years), or your relationship with your children (especially your daughter) has been going through some growing pains. Your relationship with your mother might also have been strained. This cycle continues until October of 2012. Until then, work creatively with what you have, and in your family dynamics, strive to be the “bigger person” instead of getting roped into drama. Feeling deprived of cherished time with your clan? Think: quality over quantity. As long as you schedule in advance, you’ll be able to create memorable shared experiences.
Perhaps it’s time for some new parenting techniques, as well. Don’t be afraid to change your disciplinary style, especially if you’ve been either too tough or too lenient. Stretch yourself, and find what works for you and your family. Your physical environment needs some TLC, too: carve out a home office, a crafting room, or reinvigorate the décor throughout your four walls. With effort and time, you may end up creating a cottage industry for yourself! Need some professional help in getting the job done? Invest in a system like California Closets or Elfa shelving to help you organize. And don’t forget, Cancer: as hard as things get, your friends are there to support and love you. Open up to the people who care about you the most. You don’t always have to be the tough one, Crab!
