"Against the Wall": Escape with Lifetime's Newest Crime Drama
I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for any show featuring an actress who bears a striking resemblance to Meg Ryan (from her “Sleepless in Seattle” and “When Harry Met Sally” days). So imagine my surprise when I got the chance to catch a sneak peak of the brand new Lifetime series “Against the Wall” which stars Rachael Carpani (a Meg Ryan ringer) as a police officer who lands her dream job as a detective but winds up in one of the most hated divisions on the force - Internal Affairs. The one hour drama series premieres Sunday, July 31, at 10 pm ET/9c on Lifetime Television.
As a 30 year old single woman from Chicago with her eyes on the prize, Abby Kowalski (Carpani), is determined to make her mark at her new job, even if it means causing a rift with her brothers, who all happen to be police officers. In the romance department, she keeps having clumsy Meg Ryan-type encounters with Danny (Chris Johnson), an old friend and handsome attorney who I’m sure she’ll be hooking up with in future episodes. But before that happens, she’s in the midst of a secret fling with her brother’s partner who pretty much gives his pal the evil eye if he so much looks at his sister (if he only knew). Meanwhile, Abby’s keeping an even bigger secret from her dad, played by Treat Williams, since he was a veteran cop and would be incensed to hear his daughter took a job at the one department in the force that investigates their own.
Meanwhile, the only person who seems on her side - aside from her pregnant IA partner Lina Flores (Marisa Ramirez), is her mom (Kathy Baker), a devout Catholic who is trying her best to keep her tight knit family together despite their differences.
Since I’m a sucker for crime dramas and romance, I enjoyed escaping into Abby’s life and watching as she and her partner attempt to solve cases with all the odds stacked against them. I’m also hoping to see what happens when her brother finds out she’s been having a fling with his partner and whether she and Danny will eventually wind up in each other’s arms.
So get ready to escape into a drama filled with suspense, romance, tension and family angst...sounds like my house...without the Internal Affairs part.
