Bobbi Brown's Special Gift to Her Dad
I don't know about you, but before I call out to my kids to get out of bed and get dressed for school, make breakfast, lunches, clean up morning messes and narrowly make my commuter train, I treat myself to a five-minute makeover compliments of makeup guru Bobbi Brown. I've been a fan of this mom of three for more than a decade, and was first introduced to her in my past life, while spending time backstage with several celebrity makeup artists who swore by her products.
Today I had the privilege of meeting Bobbi Brown as well as someone incredibly special in her life, her dad, Joe. After working nearly 50 years as an attorney, Joe switched gears to pursue his passion for writing, thanks to a special gift from his daughter. On Joe's 70th birthday, Bobbi surprised her dad when she published a story he had shared for decades with his children and grandchildren. After presenting her dad with 100 copies of his hardbound children's book about a taxi driver named Marceau who passes time behind the wheel by sharing adventurous tales with his passengers, Joe was ecstatic, passing out copies to close friends and family.
From that moment forward, Joe decided it was time to dive in and reignite his love of writing. With renewed spirit, Joe wrote "The Flights of Marceau: Race to the Rescue" which was published this year by Scholastic. The book catches up with Marceau as he rescues a collection of zoo animals after they're left stranded by a hurricane. "The Flights of Marceau" is an engaging tale that is not only beautifully illustrated, but is also an educational read. Each page features a glossary with word definitions that will help enhance a child's reading comprehension and vocabulary skills.
As we continued chatting, I learned how Bobbi Brown got her start - she moved from Chicago to Boston and attended Emerson College, one of the few colleges in the nation which offered practical courses in visual arts and makeup. Upon graduation, Bobbi moved to Manhattan without knowing a soul. Despite struggling financially, Bobbi persevered with support and encouragement from her parents and the rest as they say is history. If you'd like to hear more from Bobbi and her dad, who shares an incredibly inspiring story of how he predicted his daughter would become the next Estee Lauder, then listen in to our interview with both of them on Blog Talk Radio.
