Celebrity Train Wrecks: Splitsville for Kim, Jail Time for Lindsay & Baby Mama Drama for the Biebster
First Kim Kardashian split with her husband after 72 days of wedded misery, then Lindsay Lohan gets sent back to the slammer for skipping out on parole and now, squeaky clean Justin Bieber may have a love child and his baby mama could get arrested for statutory rape since he was underage when he allegedly hooked up with her.
Is it just me, or are all young stars eventually prone to scandal? As for the Biebster, the news of him being a dad could just be the work of a gold digger who figured she could cash in on a one night stand with the pop idol. I'm truly hoping that if the story is true, that his mom, who typically travels with him on tour, will keep other young girls off limits until he's at least 30.
Since my own daughter is still a tween and has yet to hit the scary rebellious years, I have no way of knowing whether she might decide to do something completely inappropriate. As a parent, I've done my best to teach my kids the difference between right and wrong but with celebrities who become famous too young and too soon, sometimes trying to be a friend to your child is the worst possible thing you can do for them. Just take a look at Lindsay Lohan, whose mom and dad have completely anti-parented their daughter. Maybe if Lindsay had a "mom" instead of a "friend," things could have been different for her. She would have given the jewelry she had tried on back to the sales clerk and not waltzed out of the store thinking she was above the law. But the courts and the morgue didn't help her case. She'll be vacationing for the next 30 days in a cell block and hopefully, that month of being scared straight will truly convince her that it's time to grow up and become the Lindsay Lohan my daughter once knew and loved from "The Parent Trap" and "Mean Girls." One can only hope.
The silver lining in this teen star gone bad trend is that there are a few stars who are role models to young kids and here's hoping they stay that way. I personally adore Miranda Cosgrove (Carly, from iCarly) and believe that it's better to share her positive traits then completely overshadowing the negative by sharing these train wreck tales on every entertainment show and magazine known to mankind.
Despite my lament about the tawdry tales we're finding out about Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan, here's hoping that our kids can see through all this nonsense and recognize that in order to become famous, you don't have to take a walk on the wild side.
