Everything's Coming up Pop-Tarts
As a pop culture fanatic, I was pretty psyched to be invited to get a sneak peak of the brand new Pop-Tarts World store in New York City before it opened to the general public. I've been a Pop-Tarts lover for years and whenever I fall off my diet wagon (and lately that's been pretty often), I can be found sneaking into my kids' Smores stash that's tucked away in my pantry.
When we arrived at the store we were met by the Pop-Tarts marketing team who gave us a grand tour, starting with a spin at the "Varietizer," a 16-foot tall machine that offers more than 23 varieties of Pop-Tarts. Once you select six flavors on a computer screen (2 Pop-Tarts per box), you press the "Varietizer" button and suddenly the machine comes to life. The boxes are deposited into a slot where you can pack them up to take home or eat right there if you're hungry.
Next, we made our way over to the custom t-shirt making machine where you can choose up to three images and select the colors they use to design it. Best of all, the shirt can be designed and finished within five minutes!!!! My son selected the Statue of Liberty standing alongside a massive Pop-Tart. I would have loved to have seen lady Liberty eating a Pop-Tart but I guess I can throw that idea into the t-shirt suggestion box.
Then there's the light show where the crowd is hit with laser beams of frosting and colored sprinkles. And a gaming area where you can hop on a computer and check out popular Pop-Tart YouTube videos, the Pop-Tart Facebook page and play fun games. Incidentally, my son earned the high score at Pop-Tart basketball that night. There's also kitschy t-shirts, lip gloss, and post cards available for sale. Plus Pop-Tart artwork that adorns the walls from artist Burton Morris (he became famous for his work on the hit TV show "Friends.")
Once you've worked up an appetite, you can head over to the cafe where you can design your own Pop-Tart frosting - selecting your flavor, sprinkles, chocolate chips and more. And best of all, you can try out a host of creations including Pop-Tarts sushi! Incidentally, the Pop-Tarts team informed me that one of their favorite things to do with Pop-Tarts is to freeze them. Now that I have my Varietizer box, I'm definitely going to give that a whirl!
