Get Fierce: My Episode 1 Recap (Dance Mom Debi)
I am excited for this year because Hannah has been working really hard. Over the summer she gained a lot of flexibility and her technique is constantly improving. She also worked a lot with Victor and Angel on her artistry and has reached a new level; she is really feeling the music and showing her feelings through her dance. Hannah has matured a lot in her attitude towards dance.
When it comes to a competitive streak, I think Hannah is mostly just competitive with herself! She’s not competitive with other people because she is the type of person who looks at the good in others no matter what. Even when they are not nice to her she will stand up for them. I have to say that at times it drives me crazy -- and makes me proud all at once. I feel Hannah has an outstanding work ethic and it would be hard to find someone who will work harder than her. And I don’t believe I can change the genuine niceness that Hannah has towards all people and I wouldn’t even try, although it kills me at times! I am much more competitive than she is by far.
When I saw that Hannah was at the bottom of the list I was not surprised. I didn’t agree with it but Angel and Victor are always on top of her about her technique and they push her hard knowing that with her work ethic she will respond by working hard. I thought that not giving her a solo or a duet/trio was horrible; it was like having four lollipops for five children and giving them out anyway! Leaving one child out in any situation is not ok with me -- ever.
As far as Sammy being second on the list, I did not believe that anyone who is first walking into a studio should be placed that high until they prove themselves. And I think that Abby is going to have an issue being the “New Mom” on the block as she is not used to the way Stars is run or the level of commitment that is expected. So we shall see how she fairs - it is very different at Stars than at our old studios.
As far as the competition day, there were a couple of issues I was having with Susan. I thought she was putting too much pressure on Jessi to win. Winning was the only thing Susan was concerned with that day. The trophy incident was the perfect example of having to worry and teach our children about more than just winning and that winning graciously is also important. I was very upset with how Susan handled that situation. I made the children leave the green room so I could address her in hopes that she would handle the situation later with Jessi. All I truly wanted from Susan at the time was for her to apologize to me for it happening and assure me that she would have Jessi apologize to Hannah.
