Beatles Rock Band
"I’m not sure if you’ve heard of them, but there’s this band? Called the Beatles? And they have this game called Rock Band?"
THIS is what my thirteen year old said to me. I could not make this up. He wanted to tell me about this fabulous “new” band, umm, yeah, The Beatles. Not unlike the time I told my mom about Janis Joplin.
But for those of us who are longtime fans of the Fab Four, Beatles Rock Band gives us a really fun way to interact with the songs - for once, we’re SUPPOSED to sing along!
Now, tell me: Are you Paul or Ringo?
Best innovation: The capability to have vocal harmonies be part of the track on Rock Band, with multiple singers and microphone inputs. Definitely adds to the reality of the Beatles experience.
Price Range: $249.99 and up - for additional Beatles-style instruments. The Beatles: Rock Band software is available for Wii, or Xbox 360. Package comes with Höfner bass controller, The Beatles branded 'Rock Band' drums, microphone, microphone stand, and special content.
These unique and interesting necklaces feature varied vibrant patterns incorporating Japanese Chiyogami paper with metallic painted details.
The "front" and "back" side present different colors, textures and themes. Because this necklace is reversible you can wear it with different outfits, or to match the mood that you’re in.
Every necklace is handmade; no two are ever exactly alike. On one side, the red tones dominate, and on the other, the orange make themselves known. The warmth will definitely warm you up on a long, snowy day. Fun and functionality couldn't be more prominent. Each shape is approximately 1/2" long and comes with a 18" sterling silver chain. I think they're the perfect present - for me!
Pashmina Sutra Scarf- $100,
Citta and Tonic teamed up to produce these cushy, two-ply, 100-percent pashmina Sūtra Scarves, hand knit by the women of the Citta Himalaya Women's Center in Nepal.
In Sanskrit, the word Sūtra means "a thread or line that holds things together" —we know a little bit about holding things together, yes? I like that this item contributes to the Global sisterhood.
Designer Lucy Barnes provided her expertise to these luxurious pieces, available in mottled grey or camel and hand embroidered with special messages chosen by celebrity supporters. From David Bowie (who chose "funk") to Susan Sarandon ("awake") to Queen Latifah ("strength"), eight actors and musicians shared words that speak to their hearts.
Whimsical and bright, these fabulous handmade ceramic vases by Ed & Kate Coleman are a unique ray of sunshine in any room. Every time your mom puts flowers in water, she’ll think of you.
Another clothing line created by a Mama, this one is exclusively for children.
Citrus features fun, funky fresh duds for little people. The tagline: “Your kids are cool: Dress ‘em that way!”
From Pirates to guitars to shooting stars, these colorful, well-made pieces will still be sturdy when your wee one outgrows them.
For the mom who has every black T-shirt known to woman, and wants to put a little rock and roll bling in her repetoire - check out these fashion-forward, beautifully made T’s - brought into the world by a mom of 3, Heather Nolte. They're also available at Target online, and the Toddler line will soon be in select JC Penney stores!
For all of us who grew up with Tori Amos’ “Little Earthquakes, ” a holiday CD may be the last thing we expected this mama chanteuse to come out with - so much of her earlier artistic expression was a quiet rail against her strict upbringing. But, Amos brings a solid hymnal quality to this collection, making it a promising candidate for one that will beat out Mannheim Steamroller at many house this year.
So, those are my top picks for this Holiday season, unless there's Prada on the table. Then, all bets are off. Enjoy!
