Get Personal With "Drop Dead Diva" Star Ben Feldman
“Drop Dead Diva,” now back in its second season, is one Lifetime Television hit series you don't want to miss. I am in love with the show! Or could it be that guardian angel Fred played by Ben Feldman - Who knows?!
In the first season, after a mix up at Heavens' gate, Fred was grounded to earth to keep a close watch on Deb (once a wannabe model) now living life as Jane, a brilliant lawyer. Jane needs all the help she can get as she adjusts to being a new her. Surprisingly, Fred experienced feelings he never had to deal with as a gate keeper when he grew closer to Stacy, Deb's once best friend who is now friends with Jane, and the only from her past that knows her secret. The show airs Sundays at 9pm et/pt.
When asked to interview Jane's watchful eye Fred, how could I resist! Full of excitement, but a bit nervous I happily embraced every moment. So here’s how it went…
Tiffany: So give me the scoop on where you are? Still in Atlanta and still filming or are you back home now?
Ben: I am still living in Atlanta. I have been here filming since March and should be wrapping things up for the second season of “Drop Dead Diva” with just a few episodes left to film. Then I will be heading back to home. [Los Angeles]
Tiffany: Tell me about where you shoot “Drop Dead Diva.”
Ben: We are actually filming just south of Atlanta about 40 miles away in Peachtree City, GA. Somehow they located this old airplane hanger at a private airport. It's pretty cool but with an active airport it creates noise that you often try to avoid when filming. There's also a dog kennel nearby along with trains. So we have some noise issues, but have managed well.
Tiffany: I live in Atlanta and I know Peachtree City is a nice area, but I know that the Atlanta traffic isn't the best. You making that commute daily?
Ben: Yes, the traffic is defiantly comparable to LA's so I have just been embracing it each morning with my cup of coffee and some satellite radio. It’s not terrible. Kind of feels like home.
Tiffany: I love satellite radio -- tell me what could I find you listening to?
Ben: Yeah I am a big fan of Sirius. (hesitates) What do I listen to? Oh Geez, I may get shamed for this, but I enjoy Howard Stern. I also have been enjoying the World Cup games. For music I tend to listen to college rock, Jazz, and pop. Really anything.
Tiffany: Speaking of music we just recently saw you take stage and sing karaoke to “Baby I Need Your Loving” by The Four Tops. I have to say you were impressive and I know being everyone's favorite angel, the pressure had to be on. Would you consider yourself a singer? Is that something that comes natural for you, and will there be more to come?
Ben: I hope not [laughs], unless Josh the creator just wants to torment me with more scary things to do.
Tiffany: So your famous performance got you a bit nervous, would you say?
Ben: Absolutely! To know that this will be viewed by millions and singing is not something that I do. Most of my friends are really good singers and to know that I am going to be criticized by them, it was something I feared. Thankfully I was able to get it out of the way early because I am definitely not a singer, just played one on TV.
Tiffany: Well you had me fooled. It is no secret you are definitely a heartthrob and were very missed last season when you left. Is Fred back to stay this season?
Ben: Fred is back. Fred being gone last season really had nothing to do with the show, just some other businesses. But you can expect to find Fred staying as a regular.
Tiffany: I heard rumor that Jake from “The Bachelor” will be on the show on August 22? Are you a fan of “The Bachelor?” Do you watch the show? Give me the details on him!
Ben: You know I did watch last season when Jake was the Bachelor for the first time and now ironically he is filming with us. We did get to talk, and I am defiantly not envious of him and what he is going through. Just glad it’s not me, but he seems like a nice guy.
Tiffany: In Season One we all watched Fred fall for Stacy. Now that he is back and Stacy’s memory has been wiped clean of Fred, what now? What is next for Fred? Will he date?
Ben: I wouldn't want to spoil it or say too much, so you will just have to watch and see. But Fred will start to date again and have some distractions along the way.
Tiffany: Lastly, do you own the new iPhone 4 yet?
Ben: No I actually don't. I do have the update which is nice and probably will get one when I am done filming. What about you?
Tiffany: I wish. I am bummed my iPhone will not even update. So I am not sure what I will do next [sigh].
