Knowing When To Use A Coupon
I like to think of using coupons as being kind of like playing a hand of Poker. Just like you have to “know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em” when it comes to playing cards, you also have to learn to use your coupons at just the right time to make the most of your savings.
A recent example from my own life is with a coupon I received for a free box of new Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Detergent. Before I learned how to maximize my coupons savings, I would have run right out to the store to use this coupon. Now I know it’s okay to bide my time and wait for just the right time to “play” my coupons by pairing them up with a good sale.
Since I already had a healthy stockpile of laundry products, I saw no reason to be hasty about using my free coupon. Knowing that CVS and other stores often have buy-one-get-one-free sales on Purex products, and since the expiration date was several months out, I felt confident in waiting for a sale opportunity. Sales are cyclical, and once you learn the cycles, you’ll have a better idea of when to buy items at the lowest price possible.
My gamble paid off handsomely – CVS recently ran the buy-one-get-one sale that I was hoping for. Since their policy on using BOGO coupons on a BOGO sale is to get both items for free, I was able to get two boxes of the Purex 3-in-1 absolutely free!
