Post Back-to-School Shopping
The dust is already settling on the new books and backpacks with school well underway. But don't miss the chance to score a few more back-to-school deals! While shopping may be the last thing on your mind after a busy summer gearing up for school, now is the perfect opportunity to get a head start on next year.
With smaller crowds and retailers clearing inventory to make room for holiday merchandise, September is a bargain hunter's dream. Now since kids do grow at rather unpredictable rates, buying shoes and clothing on clearance for next year is a small gamble. I say it is a smart risk. Clearance racks will be hitting 60-70% off at some stores, and combined with a coupon make for really sweet savings.
Here are a few tips to get the most out of shopping post back-to-school sales:
- Going up a size or two for clothing is wise when thinking about next year. Avoid trendier pieces and stick with solid colors and basics.
- It is always prudent to snatch up cheap school supplies, backpacks and lunch boxes, since you may find yourself needing a replacement mid-year. Anything extra you end up with can be donated to next years' drives for those in need.
- You will not find the best deals in any store ad or online. To score big, you must hit the stores ready to shop. It may take some hunting and digging, so be prepared. Find those clearance racks, end caps and corner sales. Take a friend for extra fun!
- Be on the lookout for summer clearance such as bathing suits and towels while you are at it.
I plan to visit JCPenney's, Kohl's, Walmart and Target for some clearance hunting myself. If you are planning a shopping mission, be sure to check out the latest retails coupons before you go for extra savings.
