One Born Every Minute
Interview with Mom, Kelly, from One Born Every Minute
I had the chance to interview Kelly from this week’s episode of One Born Every Minute and was just as impressed with her strength on the phone as from the episode. You probably remember her as the mom who lost three babies, two miscarriages and one stillborn, prior to this pregnancy. I can’t even imagine the pain that she has experienced, but I’m glad she has shared her story to bring hope to others.
I asked Kelly what inspired her to be on One Born Every Minute. She admitted that it was not an easy choice, but after careful consideration she realized that by sharing her story she could give hope to other moms in similar situations. She explained that it was the support of other moms who had been on the same path, or who were also pregnant after a loss, that helped her cope with her own situation. That close knit community gave encouragement and support to her, and she wanted to be able to give the same to others.
What amazed me most was the part of her story that was not shown in the episode. At 32 weeks while at home, she experienced a rupture and gush of blood. Rushing to the emergency room, she was kept on bed rest in the hospital for 4.5 weeks until she was 36 weeks along, which was the safest time for her to have the baby. Her story on the episode begins once she has been induced. Her baby boy was born less than 5 lbs, but I’m happy to say, is now a healthy 17 lb 7-month old.
Kelly’s experience touched me deeply because we are the same age, with babies only a month apart. Her story reminded me that each of my children is a blessing to embrace. Motherhood is a challenging journey, wrought with tears, pain, and uncertainty, but Kelly has shown that being a mother begins long before that birth day. It begins when we choose to sacrifice and love our child before ourselves.
Tune into One Born Every Minute on Tuesdays 10pm EST/9 CST.
