A Kick in the Nuts: Sexual Harassment or Self-Defense?
This morning on the radio I heard the tail end of a report about a boy who had been bullied and fought back, it caught my attention and I wanted to learn more, so I went online to find out what had happened.
Seems that a 7 year old boy reported to his mom that on on the bus one day after school, another boy started to choke him and took his gloves. The young boy, who claims he couldn’t breath, kicked the bully in the groin to make him stop. The school is now investigating the incident for possible sexual harassment.
In my google search, I found two interesting articles on this incident, one clearly shares the opinion that this is insane, how can a 7 year old boy who was protecting himself be charged or even investigated for sexual harassment!
The other article takes a different approach and states that we (the reader, school, etc) really have no idea what happened, and no one should be getting their panties all in a twist over this investigation. Sexual harassment laws MUST remain in place the way they are today to protect those who are abused.
So was this kid right to fight back, or should bullied kids sit back and take the abuse because they are unsure of what punishment will come to them? I’d love to know if that bully ever picks on that kid again, and if not, does that prove he did the right thing.
Either way, I don’t see where sexual harassment comes in, do you?
