Making My Mommy Resolutions
Every year I make resolutions. I rarely keep them… but I make them. I suppose I make them in the faith and hope that I will be more productive than I was last year. My resolutions tend to revolve around personal goals, things I want to achieve for myself or in terms of my writing career. I did rather well last year in regards of keeping my resolutions. I increased my income. Took a few leaps of faith concerning business and even attended a conference.
However, when it comes to mommy resolutions, I’m a big FAIL. I’m not sure what got me thinking about it but when I looked back, I realized that I really don’t make any MOM resolutions. It’s not that I think I’m a perfect mom (far from it) but maybe it’s because I never thought about it. Every day I strive to do something better as a mom. Be it more nutritious meals, helping kids with their homework, or spending more down time with them (in fact as I am writing this, Peanut is whining at me… break time maybe), I’m always trying to improve my mom game.
So that leads me to wonder… Am I the only mom out there who doesn’t make resolutions that will make her a better mom? Should I be making mom resolutions? I don’t think there is a clear answer on this one; especially since every mom I know wants to do the best and be the best for her kids.
Still, maybe it’s internal pressure that I’m placing on myself or another one of society’s beliefs that I have to be a better mom tomorrow than I am today; whatever the reason, I’ve decided to come up with some Mom Resolutions. Feel free to copy and use as needed.
1. I will make sure that everyone has clean socks (tell me this isn’t an issue in your house. What about WHITE SOCKS??).
2. I resolve to read more bedtime stories.
3. We will take more weekend trips to the park.
4. I promise to stop tickling the 10th time you ask me to.
5. I will say yes more often. (Unless it means staying up past bedtime on a school night.)
For now, this is a good start. I don’t know a mom who couldn’t resolve to more tickles, more bedtime stories and saying yes more than she says no. I don’t know a household that always manages to find clean socks (maybe I should resolve to finding the monster that keeps stealing them all instead).
Are you making any mom resolution this year?
