Me Time or Mom Time?
With school-aged children all back to school and summer vacation finally coming to a close, many moms find themselves with something they haven't had for three months - time to themselves. While it would be nice to imagine that suddenly we have time to relax and prop our feet up, maybe go for a manicure and nap every day, the truth is that for many of us, me time really becomes mom time. Summer vacation often means a vacation from extra-curriculars, sports, church activities and not just school. When school is back in session, the family's schedule kicks into high gear as well. Practices and lessons, time spent doing homework, and weekend games make the hours while the kids are at school the only time for stay-at-home moms to plan meals, do laundry (those grass stains - oh my!), and complete other not so fun but completely necessary tasks. Where are the manicures in that?
But with that said, it also allows many of us a time to complete the otherwise dull daily chores with some semblance of peace. No longer are we jumping over kids playing in the hall to try to take the laundry to the basement. And trips to the grocery store? No one enjoys the chorus of little voices positioned around the cart begging for cookies or complaining that "Brother touched me!" In fact, it almost makes me daydream about sipping a mocha latte while casually strolling through the bread aisle...
A parent's work is never done and their day never ends, summer or fall, winter or spring. And yet it is, far and away, the most rewarding vocation one could hope for.
So tell me...with the kids back to school, how will you find a way to turn mom time into me time?
