My "Mommy's Been Good This Year" Top 5 Holiday Gifts
Every year the kids bombard me with what they want for Christmas. They usually start creating their Christmas lists sometime in the middle of October and by December 15, the list has grown from “I just want one or two things”, to a “cash in the college savings” list. I rarely get to make a list of the things I want, which is really fine with me. I love to see the kids’ surprised faces when they open up their gifts.
However, if I were to create my own list for Santa this year, it would consist of these top five picks:
For all my freelancing needs: a new laptop – I live on and love my laptop. It’s how I work day in and day out but as far as laptop life goes… mine is ancient. I’ve always been an HP girl and so it’s a no brainer for me for my next laptop be an HP – the HP Pavilion dv6 Series of laptops offers a variety of features that I can use for both work and entertainment. Built in webcams, HD screens… I’m geeking out just thinking about all the possibilities!
An upgrade to my digital camera – Speaking of ancient, have you seen my digital camera? I mentioned I was an HP girl so you might not realize that my digital camera was one of the the last digital cameras that HP made. It’s time for an upgrade but I don’t just want to point and shoot anymore. I live in a beautiful rural setting and would love to really capture the beauty of my surroundings so I’ve chosen a Nikon D3000 Digital SLR. I’ll admit I don’t know much about the DSLR cameras on the market today but this looks to be like a great starter model that won’t lose me in the picture taking process.
Some serious organization therapy with a new pocket organizer – Okay, I admit I have severe organization issues; as in I am completely unorganized. Anything that can be done to help move me in the right direction (or be on time) is greatly appreciated and needed. The It’s so Involved Being Me organizer by Anne Taintor would fit perfectly in my bag to take along anywhere I go and Seriously? I LOVE the design and captions featured in Anne’s products. She’s sassy, classy and a little snarky to boot. Totally me.
Get my cook on in a dutch oven – Until I started to really stretch my culinary wings this year, I didn’t know what a great addition and necessity a dutch oven can be to my kitchen! We’re a family of six and a dutch oven is perfect for slow cooking the roasts we get from our beef and hogs every year. The Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven (in red no less) would look great in my large country kitchen, don’t you think so?
I’m learning how to knit – and some new knitting supplies are just what I need! I recently started to teach myself how to knit and even found a local yarn shop to feed my new passion but as any crafter will tell you, tools are everything and I’m in love with the Brittany Single Point knitting needles. They are made of birch hardwood and are extremely comfortable in my hands.
This is a rather eclectic list at best but now you know just how all over the place I am with my passions and hobbies!
Now if someone could just forward my list to Santa for me and let him know that I’ve been a very good mom this year, I’d really appreciate it!
